New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the results of the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination, bringing relief to lakhs of medical aspirants across the country. According to the NTA, more than 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified, making them eligible to participate in the admission process for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, B.Sc. Nursing (where applicable), and other undergraduate medical programmes.
Candidates can download their scorecards from the official NTA NEET website using their application number and date of birth. The scorecard contains important details such as subject-wise marks, percentile score, All India Rank (AIR), category rank, qualifying status, and other information required during the admission process.
Counselling Process to Begin
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct counselling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, along with admissions to AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC institutions, central universities, deemed universities, and other participating colleges.
The remaining 85% State Quota seats will be filled through counselling conducted separately by the respective state authorities. Each state will release its own counselling schedule, eligibility criteria, and registration process.
Candidates are advised to keep track of official announcements regarding:
- Counselling registration
- Choice filling and locking
- Seat allotment rounds
- Document verification
- Reporting to allotted colleges
- Mop-up and stray vacancy rounds
Missing any deadline may result in the loss of admission opportunities.
Documents Required for Counselling
Students should prepare all required documents before the counselling process begins. These generally include:
- NEET UG 2026 Scorecard
- NEET UG 2026 Admit Card
- Class 10 Certificate (Date of Birth Proof)
- Class 12 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate
- Valid Government-issued Photo ID
- Passport-size Photographs
- Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), if applicable
- PwD Certificate, if applicable
- Domicile Certificate for State Quota admissions
- Any additional documents required by the counselling authority
Candidates should carry both the original documents and self-attested photocopies during document verification.
Seat Allotment Based on Merit
Admission to medical colleges will depend on multiple factors, including:
- All India Rank (AIR)
- Category and reservation rules
- Seat availability
- Candidate's preferred colleges
- Counselling choices filled during registration
- Eligibility criteria prescribed by the counselling authority
Students securing higher ranks generally have better chances of obtaining seats in government medical colleges. However, candidates with lower ranks may also secure admission through state counselling, private medical colleges, deemed universities, and AYUSH institutions, depending on seat availability and cutoff trends.
Understanding the Counselling Rounds
The counselling process usually consists of multiple rounds to ensure that available seats are filled efficiently. Candidates who are not allotted a seat in the first round often receive opportunities in subsequent rounds, depending on vacancies and revised merit positions.
Applicants should carefully read the counselling guidelines before making their college preferences. Experts recommend researching previous years' opening and closing ranks, college infrastructure, academic performance, hospital facilities, internship opportunities, and fee structure before locking choices.
Important Advice for Candidates
Education experts recommend relying only on official sources for counselling updates. Students should avoid rumours or unofficial information circulating on social media and instead regularly visit the websites of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and their respective state counselling authorities.
Candidates should also:
- Keep multiple printed copies of their scorecard.
- Ensure their registered mobile number and email ID remain active.
- Arrange all required certificates before counselling begins.
- Monitor official notifications daily for schedule changes.
- Verify every detail on the scorecard and counselling portal before submitting choices.
Proper preparation can help avoid last-minute difficulties during admission.
Opportunities Beyond MBBS
While MBBS remains the preferred choice for many candidates, NEET-qualified students also have opportunities in several other healthcare programmes, including BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BVSc & AH (where applicable), and B.Sc. Nursing in participating institutions.
Candidates are encouraged to explore all available options based on their rank, eligibility, and career interests before making counselling choices.
What Happens Next?
With the result now declared, thousands of successful candidates are preparing for one of the most important stages of their medical careers. The counselling process will determine admissions to government and private medical colleges across the country.
Candidates should regularly check official counselling notifications, complete all registration formalities within the prescribed deadlines, and ensure that their documents are ready for verification.
The declaration of the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination results marks an important milestone for aspiring healthcare professionals and opens the way for admission to medical, dental, AYUSH, nursing, and other allied health science programmes across India.
